TensoRF is a novel approach for modeling and reconstructing radiance fields, diverging from traditional NeRF models that primarily use MLPs. This method represents the radiance field of a scene as a 4D tensor, which effectively acts as a 3D voxel grid with multi-channel features per voxel. The core innovation lies in factorizing this 4D scene tensor into multiple compact low-rank tensor components. By applying CANDECOMP/PARAFAC (CP) decomposition, TensoRF achieves fast reconstruction (under 30 minutes) with improved rendering quality and significantly smaller model sizes (under 4 MB) compared to vanilla NeRF. Furthermore, a novel vector-matrix (VM) decomposition boosts rendering quality, reduces reconstruction time to under 10 minutes, and maintains a compact model size (under 75 MB). This approach offers superior rendering quality and a lower memory footprint, making it a powerful tool for 3D scene representation.
