Wuerstchen is an open-source framework designed for the efficient pretraining of text-to-image models. Unlike common approaches that use single-stage compression, Wuerstchen introduces an additional stage, resulting in a 42x compression factor while maintaining faithful image reconstruction. This multi-stage compression (Stage A, B, and C) allows the computationally expensive text-conditional part to be learned in a highly compressed latent space.
